I say it time and again but here in the Blogosphere you have to constantly remind people so I say again, nothing is set in stone.
One possible financial model for the Downtown Greensboro Aquarium is
the publicly owned, nonprofit corporation such as is used by the NFL
football team, the Green Bay Packers
in Green Bay, Wisconsin, a city just 1/3 the size of Greensboro. That's
right, they have their own pro football team playing in the NFL and the
population as of the 2010 census was only 104,057. Green Bay is in fact
the smallest city in the USA with a major professional sports
franchise.
How is it they were able to do that when Greensboro never could? One word: cooperation.
Instead of building a top down process that tried to push something on
the citizens of Green Bay that the citizens didn't want or didn't feel
they could be a part of, the Packers organization worked from the ground
up to get the support of their community and built a major league
football team that gives the citizens of Green Bay what they want in
return for their investment.
And while we don't yet know what business model Greensboro will
ultimately decide upon, this is one option that surely won't be ignored.
So please, help us work from the bottom up and don't forget to like us on Facebook.
